Are the shipping containers new or have they been used?
It depends. Used shipping containers are cheaper. IMD uses recycled containers; each one is inspected individually for structural integrity prior to being used. New containers are also available at a higher cost.
How long will a container building last?
If properly maintained, a shipping container should last indefinitely. A healthy coat of paint will help the durable corten steel remain rust free.
Can IMD structures withstand the weather conditions in cold climates?
The corten steel frame of a container can withstand certain snow loads. Additional structure can be added if necessary, though this is often unlikely. Depending on the severity of winter conditions, additional insulation will be required.
How green is an IMD unit?
Again, it depends. Shipping containers are made from recycled steel. Further the furnishings and home are shipped together minimizing transportation. IMD also uses energy efficient materials and products such as LED lighting, low water consumption plumbing fixtures, and low VOC paints which clients pick and choose. Can I customize my IMD unit?
IMD always welcomes custom projects. We charge a design fee of $100 per hour of work for any custom design. Additionally, once the 50% deposit has been made, IMD will begin designing and customizing to your requests.
